Itinerary
Day 1
Tel Aviv
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Tel Aviv.
Day 2
Tel Aviv – Jaffa – Caesarea – Muhraka – Nazareth – Tiberias
After breakfast, drive through the Metropolitan city of Tel Aviv and visit Jaffa. Drive along the coastal road to Caesarea, an ancient Mediterranean city halfway between Tel Aviv and Haifa, to see the hippodrome and the Roman amphitheater. Continue to Muhraka with a breathtaking view of the north of Israel. Here Elijah confronted and defeated the Priests of Baal (1 Kings: 18). Continue to Nazareth in the Galilee with many Churches and Monasteries, where Jesus grew to manhood. Recent excavations show that it has been inhabited since the time of the patriarchs in the 2nd Millennium B.C. Mass at Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth. Continue to Cana, the site of the first Miracle (John 2:1-11). Check into hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Mt. of Beatitudes – Banias – Capernaum – Boat Ride – Jordan River (Yardenit) – Mt. Tabor
Enjoy breakfast before driving to Mt. of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount (Luke 6:20-49). Celebrate Mass. Enjoy an uplifting boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Visit Capernaum on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus began his preaching career. Next, drive to Yardenit, where the Jordan River flows into the Sea of Galilee. This spot, just a few meters down from where it is believed that John the Baptist baptized Jesus, was developed as a baptism area. Proceed to Mt. Tabor (Luke 9:28-36). Ascend to the summit by Taxi. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Jericho, Qumran, Dead Sea, Jerusalem
After breakfast, drive to Jericho, a flourishing oasis in the Judean Desert. Archaeological research has confirmed Jericho as being the oldest city in the world. Ascend to Mt. of Temptation (Matt 4:1) by Cable Car. Continue on to Qumran remains of a settlement on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea and the site of the Qumran Caves, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered by desert Bedouins. Travel to the Dead Sea also called the “Sea of Salt,” which is the lowest spot on the surface of the globe. Here, you can experience floating and swimming in these waters with their amazing healing powers. Finally, drive to Jerusalem and check into the hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.
Day 5
Jerusalem – Bethlehem
Today after breakfast, drive to the Mount of Olives – a mountain to the east of the Old City used as a cemetery since ancient times. Christian tradition maintains that many events related to the life of Jesus took place on the mountain, hence the many holy sites that are situated there. First, visit the Ascension Church and then the Pater Noster Chapel, where the Lord’s Prayer is written in many languages (Matthew 6:9-13). Next, walk down to the Garden of Gethsemane. Finally, drive to Bethlehem, the site of the tomb of Rachel and the birthplace of Jesus. Visit the Church of the Nativity, built on the grotto where Jesus is believed to have been born (Luke 2:1-20). Mass at the Church of Nativity. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Old City of Jerusalem
Full day Old City, walking tour day. You will visit St. Stephen’s gate (Acts 7:54-60), the Pool of Bethesda, Via Dolorosa – also called the Way of the Cross – from Pilate’s judgment hall to Golgotha (John 19:16-18 ). There are 14 Stations along the route, each commemorating an event along Jesus’ path to crucifixion. Visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Continue walking through the colorful bazaars to the Wailing (Western) Wall, part of the western retaining wall of the Temple Mount, which became the focal point of the Jewish religion after the Second Temple was destroyed. Access to Jews was denied when the area was under Jordanian rule, but the site has been enlarged and renovated since the Six-Day War. In addition, archaeological work has been conducted in the vicinity. Continue to the Cardo, the main street of the ancient Jewish Quarter of the Old City, which has recently been fully excavated and restored, and shops and galleries have opened along the street. Visit Mount Zion and the hall of the Last Supper. Mass at the Cenacle. Visit Dormition Abbey and St Peter of Galicantu. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Departure
You will be transferred to Ben Gurion Airport, and a Vered Hasharon representative will help you through your formalities. Departure flight.
