Jerusalem Marathon 2011

On Friday March 25, 2011, Jerusalem held its first ever Marathon, not an easy race to run considering how hilly Jerusalem is.

There were approx 1100 participants running in the marathon with the runners starting at the Knesset, going through the Old City and past the President’s residence, up Mount Scopus and around the Hebrew University and all the way back to the finish line at Sacher Park.

The winner was Raymond Kipkoech a 34 year old from Kenya who completed the race in 2 hours, 26 minutes, 44 seconds.

There were also other events including a half-marathon which over 9000 people took part in. Over 1000 of them being competitors from 40 nations who came to Israel to take part.
