Jerusalem and Tel Aviv ranked 2nd and 3rd on Best Cities List

In an annual poll readers of the prominent Travel and Leisure Magazine based in New York have ranked Jerusalem and Tel Aviv among the top cities in Africa and the Middle East.

Jerusalem is ranked 2nd and Tel Aviv 3rd  on the best cities list.

The rankings were based on sights, culture/arts, food/restaurants, people, shopping and value.

Old and New JerusalemJerusalem is the most visited city in Israel attracting over 2 million tourists a year. The holy Land sites that attract the most visitors who come to Israel from around the world include the Western Wall, The church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Via Dolorosa as well as the Holocaust Museum (Yad Vashem) and the Mount of Olives. These are just some of the many biblical and historical sites within the city, there are of course many others too numerous to list.

Jerusalem also offers plentiful accommodation and numerous restaurants.

The second most visited city in Israel is Tel Aviv with its distinctive “White City” area which has an assortment of architectural Bauhaus buildings and is a designated UNESCO world heritage site.

Tel Aviv PromenadeThis bustling modern city with excellent hotels, restaurants and beautiful beaches is also a centre of innovative and popular culture and has the added attraction of the adjoining area of Old Jaffa which is part of Tel Aviv.  It is claimed that Jaffa is the oldest port in the world and believed to have been founded by Japhet the son of Noah. It was from Jaffa that Jonah sailed before he encountered the whale. This ancient city has been beautifully reconstructed and visitors can wander the winding alleys along cobblestone paths into the artists’ quarter with interesting galleries, cafes and shops.

The ancient port of Jaffa is now a tourist attraction and a modern sailing facility.
