Bethlehem

An Arab city on Mount Judah, just 7 km's south of Jerusalem  This is the location of the biblical Bethlehem and a holy city for the Christians. According to Christian tradition, this is the birthplace of Jesus. There are many sacred sites, churches, monasteries and other religious institutions. One of these is the Church of the Nativity which according to Christian tradition was built over the cave in which Jesus was born.

Bethlehem is also where the story of Megilat Ruth took place and here David was born and later anointed as King. Rachel’s tomb at the northern entrance to the city is considered to be that of Rachel the Matriarch.
