Bahai Shrine - Haifa

The recently refurbished golden-domed Baha’i Shrine in Haifa has now been revealed in all its dazzling splendor.  It has taken over two years to complete the restoration of the interior and exterior of the 1909 edifice which included strengthening against the possibility of earthquakes.

 When the restoration project was unveiled 12,000 new tiles were revealed. These pure porcelain tiles are in more than 120 differing sizes and shapes and gilded with layers of gold and glazed with a final very durable coating.

The Baha’i gardens in Haifa and Akko are amongst Israel’s most popular tourist sites with over half a million visitors each year enjoying the beauty and serenity of these unique and very special places that have been recognized by UNESCO World Heritage List as being holy and pilgrimage places of “outstanding universal value” to followers of the Baha’i faith. It is without question that visitors of all faiths come to enjoy the spectacular beauty of these tranquil gardens.

Haifa is the world center for the Baha’i faith and the Magnificent Baha’i Shrine with its golden dome and its spectacular Gardens are a city landmark. The Shrine itself is the burial place of the Bab who was the founder of the faith.
