Catholic Pilgrimage to the Holy Land from Senegal

In August 2011 Vered Hasharon brought a group of 400 Catholic pilgrims from the West African country of Senegal on a pilgrimage to Paris, Israel, Rome and Lourdes. We chartered 2 flights to bring the pilgrims on a 21 day tour.

The group flew from Senegal to Paris where they visited the Chapel of our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, for Mass, as well as the Church of the Vincentians, rue de Sevres which houses the Shrine of St Vincent de Paul. There was also a mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Deliverance. They  visited the footsteps of St. Theresa to see where she lived and studied her Litany and The Cathedral of St. Peter.

Church of AnnunciationFrom Paris they were flown to Israel to spend 10 days in the Holy Land visiting Holy sites such as the magnificent Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, in Bethlehem the Churchof the Nativity and St. Catherine Church, as well as the Franciscan church adjoining the Basilica and a visit to the Shepherds Field.

Sites to be visited in Jerusalem include The Mount of Olives to admire the city of Jerusalem, the Church of the Pater Noster (Mass) and the Church of the Ascension, Garden of Gethsemane, The Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher the place where Jesus was crucified.

Church of the Holy SepulcherThere was then  a 3 day visit to Rome which included visits to places such as Ad Limina Apostolorum, (to the threshold of the tomb of the apostles Peter and Paul), St. Peter's Basilica - Tour de Saint-Pierre, Mass at St. Peter, Catacombs of Saint Sebastian, The papal audience at the Vatican and Ancient Rome: the Circus Maximus, the Palatine, the Capitol overlooking the Forum, the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine.

Before ending the pilgrimage  the group traveled from Rome to Lourdes where they visited the Lower Basilica, the Basilica of St. Pius X, the Grotto and  participate in The Lourdes Rosary Procession.

Catholics in Senegal are a small minority and  make up less than 5% of the population. This pilgrimage takes places every two years and is part of the world-wide operation of the Vered Hasharon Christian market.
