"HEAR O ISRAEL" - Gala Performance
MAY 14, 2018 ON MOUNT SCOPUS, JERUSALEM
The Israel@70 project celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Declaration of the State of Israel will conduct a special Gala performance of the magnificent Oratorio “Hear O Israel” on May 14th, 2018 on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, overlooking the strikingly beautiful Judean Desert. The Oratorio has been composed by Comac Brian O’Duffy and will be conducted by him. It tells the Biblical and Historical story of the exile and return of the Jews to the Land of Israel in 1948. Rabbi David Rosen will be presenting an introduction to the evening which will be compared by Yossi Klein Halevi.
The performing choir will be established from acclaimed international participants who will rehearse together with one of Israel’s accomplished Orchestras. The Oratorio itself will be in traditional form with choruses, recitative and arias and the orchestration will switch from classical style to contemporary music and Jazz as the Diaspora story unfolds.
Rowan O’Duffy – brother to Cormac, will sing the role of the Wandering Jew in the performance in Jerusalem. Rowan has often sung in his brother’s productions and is not only a singer, but also a musician and a songwriter, and works with many bands as well as performing as a solo artist.
This wonderful Oratorio “Hear O Israel” was previously performed in Israel on its 40th anniversary and since then has been performed in a number of venues in the U.K and Ireland.
