The Israman Triathlon 2012 will take place in Eilat Israel on the 20th January 2012 and will start at the amazing North Shore of this coastal resort town situated on the Red Sea.
The Israman Triathlon started in 1999 as a small event with about 30 athletes competing. Since then “Israman Eilat” has grown and is today ranked amongst the top 10 of the world’s most demanding long distance triathlons and this international race now attracts athletes from around the globe.
Contestants have the choice of competing in the full run consisting of a 3.8 m swim, a 180 km bike and a 42.2 km run, or if they wish they can choose the Half Israman consisting of a 1.8 km swim, a 90 km cycle ride and a 2.1. km run.
The competition starts with the swim in the Red Sea with mild January temperatures of 21-22 deg. C and wet suits are allowed. The most challenging aspect of the Triathlon is probably the bike route which starts with a climb from Eilat up to 700 meters above Sea Level and continues in the rolling hills overlooking Eilat.
The final segment is the run back down to Eilat. The spring like weather in Eilat during January is the perfect spot for an event of this kind with warm winter sunshine practically assured and a wonderful venue for vacations with a variety of desert activities and water sports and accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.
