Holy Land Pilgrimage from South Africa
In August this year a group of 27 pilgrims from South Africa travelled to Israel for a 10 day pilgrimage tour of the Holy Land.
Their tour of the Holy Land included visits to the antiquities park at the ancient city of Caesarea, Muhraka on Mount Carmel and time in the Galilee region where they visited Tiberias and the holy sites in the area including Tabgha, the Mount of Beatitudes, Cana, the scene of the Miracle of the Wine and Capernaum known as ”Jesus’ own town“ and where He taught and healed.
The group went on to visit Qasr El Yahud baptismal site and Jericho before continuing on to Bethlehem to visit the Church of the Nativity – the birthplace of Jesus, as well as a visit to the Shepherds Field.
Their pilgrimage continued in Jerusalem with a tour of the Old City and a visit to the Western (Wailing) Wall. They also walked along the Via Dolorosa which was the route that Jesus took and on to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. They visited many other holy sites in Jerusalem including the church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, The Garden of Gethsemane and the Hall of the Last Supper.
