Every year more than half a million visitors touring the Holy Land come to the Yardenit Baptismal site on the Jordan River. For many, the purpose is for a re-dedication of immersion and for some it is the first time that they are being baptised, but whatever the purpose it fulfills a dream that most visitors have, to be immersed in the very same waters in which John baptized Jesus.
The pleasant and modern facilities available at Yardenit and the clean flowing water at the site, the same as in Biblical times, make the experience pleasurable for all visitors.
The new amphitheater surrounded by nature and the sounds of the River with its unique design, is ideal for teaching, gathering, praying, ceremonies and concerts.
For those wishing to spend more time at the site there is a Gift shop to purchase biblical gifts and souvenirs to take home to loved ones and a restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious, traditional St Peter's Fish meal with a garden deck affording lovely views of the river that flows from the Sea of Galilee.
"The Wall of New Life"
These verses are from Mark 1:9-11 are inscribed on ceramic panels that together form the “Wall of New Life” (as of 2015 and) are quoted in nearly 100 languages and dialects each symbolizing a community that has visited Yardenit. These wonderful panels welcome visitors at the entrance and continue along the banks of the river following the baptism pools.
Pilgrims receive a “Certification of Baptism” after the immersion ceremony, which is a cherished souvenir for all, and some also like to take home water from the Jordan River available in small bottles.
There is also a lovely new promenade along the river bank lined with indigenous plants, with stone benches close to the water enabling visitors to peacefully contemplate and pray.
The site of Yardenit was built by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism and functions as an official baptism site.
