Christian Pilgrimage from Kenya

31 Catholic pilgrims traveled from Kenya to follow the Exodus route, the original route that the Israelites followed from Egypt to the Promised Land, which included visiting the Holy sites and daily Mass.

The tour began in Egypt with a visit to the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx and the Pharaonic Village. The group also visited sights such as the hanging church - built in the 4th century over southern gate of the fortress of Babylon. Dedicated to Virgin Mary, its treasures include a 14th century wall painting of the Nativity, The Church of St. Sergius and the Church of St. Mercurius.

After leaving Cairo the group drove across the Suez Canal (via an underwater tunnel), and enjoyed a scenic drive through the Sinai desert to St Catherine. Once there they enjoyed an early morning climb up the Mountain of St. Catherine to view a spectacular sunrise. St Catherine is the place where Moses climbed up the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments. In the same area, there is the famous Greek Orthodox Monastery which is built around the Burning Bush and the well where Moses met his wife Zebura.

From here the group continued on to Israel beginning with a visit to Kibbutz Yotvata, a dairy farm and one of the largest Kibbutz in Israel. They got to sample the milk and cheese products by cows & goats bred there and learned about how ecological fruit and vegetables are grown in the desert.

The pilgrims continued on to the Dead Sea region, Jericho the oldest city on earth and then to Jerusalem.  The next few days were spent touring the religious sites of Jerusalem and Bethlehem including The Chapel of Ascension, Pater Noster church, the Garden of Gethsemane, the "Wailing Wall" - the last remnants of the Temple in Jerusalem, Via Dolorosa and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. In Bethlehem they visited the Shepherd’s and the ancient Church of the Nativity, the very place where Jesus was born and the "Milk Grotto".

Next destination for the group was the North of Israel stopping along the way in Caesarea, Haifa and Nazareth. Time was spent visiting the sights around the Sea of Galilee where Jesus spent many years, including Capernaum, Tabgha and Mt of Beatitudes where he gave the Sermon on the Mount. A few hours were spent on the Sea of Galilee in a boat similar to the boat used by Jesus and his disciples.

After leaving the North the group returned to Egypt, spending time at a few other sights along the way before arriving in Cairo for their departure flight back home.
