Ethiopian Pilgrims celebrate breaking of the fast before Fasika (Easter in Amharic)
On Sunday April 15 Ethiopian pilgrims celebrated the special event that marks the end of a fast that lasts for over 50 days. During the fast they do not eat meat, any milk products, fish, mayonnaise or eggs.
At the breaking of the fast everyone dresses in white. The main dish served is “Injera” a type of pita bread but softer and different foods are placed on it to eat. Traditional Honey wine is served with the meal.
One of our groups held the event at the Ethiopian Church in Jerusalem and we joined them and shared in this celebration.
