For a number of years an Opera festival has taken place at Masada. This unique festival of outstanding performances each summer are becoming a tradition resulting in what are regarded as one of the world’s top operatic events.
Following on the successful past performances of Aida, Carmen, Nabucco and La Traviata the legacy will continue this year with performances of Puccini’s Tosca and for the first time there will also be a second production of Carmina Burana by Orff.
There will be performances of Tosca on 4,6, 11 and 13th June 2015 and as in previous years, once again the opera performances will be under the baton of Maestro Daniel Oren and the Rishon Lezion Philharmonic Orchestra. Orff’s Carmina Burana will take place on 5th and 12th June, conducted by James Judd.
Both productions will take place on the specially erected giant stage at the foot of the historic Masada Fortress at the Dead Sea. Previous performances have been attended by thousands of local Opera Fans as well as a great many visitors from around the world for which this event has become a highlight over the summer.
