The Darom Adom (Red South) festival is celebrated every year in Israel for four weeks, between January and March. During this time Red Anemones abound in the Northern Negev Desert creating an amazing and breathtaking sight as the flowers stretch in vast magnificent swathes of colour as far as the eye can see and brings to mind Holland’s splendid fields of Tulips.
Every weekend during the four week duration of the festival special events take place celebrating these magnificent national flowers of Israel being in full bloom. These events feature a great variety of family-oriented activities, but that is not to say that during the week, the beautiful scenery cannot be appreciated during a quieter time. Running freely through the carpets of red beauty is encouraged.
Some of the various weekend special events include live performances by Israeli musical stars, nature painting workshops for children as well as outstanding food and wine tastings for all. Local Kibbutzim provide delightful restaurant experiences.
Outdoor activities in the form of ATV riding, biking, agricultural tours and hiking trails are also features of the special weekend events. The variety of events and exciting experiences go on and on. Visitors can enjoy the Farmers Market, Cheese Market, Juggling shows for the entire family to enjoy and endless interesting places to visit.
The Darom Adom (Red South) festival is appreciated and enjoyed by all who experience the beauty of the desert alive with magnificent red anemones.
