20 pilgrims from the USA travelled to The Holy Land in July to experience a 10 day spiritual journey of reflection.
They visited various sites in the North of the country that included Megiddo, one of Israel’s most important archeological sites from the time of the bible.
They also enjoyed a fascinating visit to Nazareth Village which presents the life and teachings from the time of Jesus of Nazareth and allowed the group to experience the sights and sounds of that time along the Parable walk and see women in costume going about daily chores, spinning, baking and drawing water and men herding sheep and goats and tilling the soil. There is also a reconstruction of a house of the time and a synagogue of the same type in which Jesus preached in this town (Luke 4: 16-28).
Another memorable experience for the visitors was a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee in a wooden boat similar to ancient ones, surrounded by landscapes that have been sacred for thousands of years. It was here that Jesus walked on the water (John 6: 19-21).
While in Jerusalem the group walked the “Way of the Cross” (Via Dolorosa) which is the road Jesus walked from the place he was sentenced by Pontius Pilate, to Golgotha. While in Jerusalem they visited many of the religious sites including St, Anne’s Church.
During their pilgrimage three of the participants had birthdays. The group celebrated with a gala dinner for the three which included a blessing by a Rabbi and a three piece Klezmer group providing the music. The evening was enjoyed by all.
