The Feast of the Epiphany is the celebration of Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. This baptism revealed God as the Holy Trinity to the Christian world and also marked the beginning of Christ’s ministry.
Each year on January 18, thousands of Greek and Russian Orthodox Christians travel to Qasr el Yahud on the Jordan River to take part in the festive Epiphany celebrations. Qasr el Yahud is considered to be where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and is a very significant site for Christian pilgrims to visit. The site is also thought to be the spot where the Children of Israel crossed when they entered Canaan.
